This past February on the 29th, President Nagae of World Church of Messiah Brazil sought permission from Kyoshu-sama regarding the praying of the Lord’s Prayer at their monthly services as well as daily morning and evening prayers at headquarters, churches and in homes.
The Lord’s Prayer – Jesus Christ said directly to his disciples that this is how they should pray. For Christians, this is one of the most important and sacred prayers. Written in the New Testament’s Gospel of Matthew and Gospel of Luke, today, although there are detailed differences in the wording, all of Christianity – Catholics, Protestants and other denominations – offer this prayer during their worship.
In the Christian countries, including Brazil, the Lord’s Prayer was said aloud along with the Amatsu Norito for many years. Somewhere along the line, it no longer took place.
But, at this time, with the thought of wanting to respect to the utmost the will of Meishu-sama – the will for “Church of Messiah to work in concert with Christianity and strive to save humanity,” first made clear by Kyoshu-sama – the executives of World Church of Messiah Brazil resolved to seek permission from Kyoshu-sama to offer the Lord’s Prayer at services and daily morning and evening prayers.
On March 1, the day after receiving permission from Kyoshu-sama, they added the prayer to their program. Services with the Amatsu Norito, Lord’s Prayer and Reverence to the Divine Image of Meishu-sama, in that order, are now taking place.
And, currently in Brazil, a stay-at-home order is now in place due to the influence of the novel coronavirus (as of April 3). In the homes of each member of Brazil’s Church of Messiah, efforts are taking place to recite the Lord’s Prayer and Words of Prayer four times each day (at 8am, 12pm, 6pm and 10pm).
In Angola, also, because churches have been closed, a prayer takes place every day at 9am in members’ homes with the offering of the Amatsu Norito, the praying of the Lord’s Prayer, Reverence to the Divine Image of Meishu-sama, then the reading of Sacred Oath and Words of Prayer. (Homes without a divine scroll read out Sacred Oath and Words of Prayer at a scheduled time.)
Many overseas churches connected to World Church of Messiah that heard about the resurrection of the Lord’s Prayer in Brazil wanted to pray it, too. Currently, along with countries that have been praying the Lord’s Prayer such as Bolivia and many countries in Africa, approximately 30 countries are now offering the Lord’s Prayer.
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.
